Bamberg Wedding House

The Bamberger Hochzeitshaus (the “Wedding House”) was originally built for ceremonies of the citizenry and is now home of the History Faculty of the University of Bamberg. It is located on “Am Kranen”, not far from the university library in the old slaughterhouse and from the bronze sculpture Centurione I.. In the late Middle Ages, the place where the wedding house was located was the "Gasthaus zum Wilden Mann". In the summer of 1540, for example, the famous painter Albrecht Dürer rested here. Between 1610 and 1612 the town decided to demolish the inn. Instead, a contemporary wedding house with a tavern was to be built here.
