Those who wanted to brew beer always needed a brewing right. This brewing right was not granted to persons, but was directly linked to the breweries. If a property was inherited or sold with "brewing rights", the brewing right was automatically transferred to the next owner of the house. As a result, the brewery generally remained in operation for many generations.
