Main Cemetery

On the place where today is the main cemetery of Bamberg, the dead were buried since 1564. Originally this was a military cemetery. In the course of time, the inhabitants of the Bamberg East also began to use it as a last resting place for civilians. For reasons of hygiene, at the beginning of the 19th century the city of Bamberg finally decided to dissolve all inner-city cemeteries.
