New Residence

The New Residence is located diagonally opposite to the Cathedral of Bamberg, and is the newest building on Bamberg Cathedral Square. It was used as a residence by the Bamberg prince-bishops from the 17th century and replaced the Old Court in its original function. In addition to the magnificent halls, which provide visitors with genuine insights into the time of the Prince Bishops of Bamberg, today the State Library and a branch of the Bavarian State Gallery are also located in the rooms of the New Residence.
