Stöhrenkeller

The old rock cellars of the town are located along the Stephansberg. Originally, these cellars were only used for the extraction of sweeping and scouring sand, so to speak the predecessors of modern cleaning agents. But then the Bambergers discovered the outstanding properties of these cavities for cooling and storage purposes. It were the brewers who created a huge system of underground passages and tunnels in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
